A group of Sunshine Coast Council employees have earned the right to fly the maroon flag when they represent Queensland in the Australasian final of a local government challenge to be held in June.
The team of six employees recently competed in Local Government Professionals Australia Management Challenge where they beat 16 other teams from a variety of other Queensland councils to be crowned State champions.
Chief Executive Officer Michael Whittaker said the team represented the Sunshine Coast Council and the region with pride and distinction at the challenge in Brisbane last month.
“This is fantastic news and I would like to congratulate our team on their achievement as being named the best in the state,” Mr Whittaker said.
“Our team received feedback from other teams and mentors on the day that their energy, collaboration and fun were noticeable and contagious.
“The team worked together to use their talent and skills to demonstrate to the assessment panel what a high performing team can do.
“They have done our organisation and region proud, and our future is in good hands with employees of this quality.”
The announcement of the top three teams was made at the Local Government Managers Association QLD Awards for Excellence Gala dinner in Brisbane. In winning the management challenge, the Sunshine Coast team finished in front of Brisbane and Townsville City Councils.
Mr Whittaker said the team took part in the challenge on March 17 where the team had to work together to complete a series of tasks over the course of the day.
“This long running local government challenge allows teams from across Australia and New Zealand to tackle a series of projects and activities with a view to participating in state and national finals,” Mr Whittaker said.
“The challenge is an opportunity for the teams to take on the relevant issues facing local government and respond to them in a creative, fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
Challenge topics included:
