Sunshine Coast Council’s building certification business – Country & Coastal Certifiers – will stop taking new building certification applications from 1 November 2010.
Council’s Director of Development Services, Julie Edwards, said this follows a recent decision to stop accepting requests for building certification works outside of the council area. Both decisions are in line with council’s recent decision to close Country & Coastal Certifiers.
“The private certification industry provides an excellent and well-used service in our council area so, in September, council decided to close its building certification business—to both remove itself from competition with local commercial providers and to enable us to concentrate on core council building services,” Ms Edwards said.
“As part of the staged process to work towards the planned closure, Country & Coastal Certifiers will not take any new applications for building certification services from Monday 1 November 2010.”
She said council will contact applicants by letter to ensure any outstanding final inspections for existing approvals are arranged.
“We will continue to take and process any applications for work on the Sunshine Coast received before Monday 1 November 2010. As with all our work, new applications received before that date will be processed to the same high standard as always,” Ms Edwards said
“Meeting clients’ needs remains a top priority at this time and I want to emphasise that we are committed to ensuring the process is as smooth as possible, while keeping clients informed well in advance of any further changes.”
The date for the closure of the business is yet to be finalised. However clients and the development industry will be advised as soon as possible.
“All our clients needs will continue to be met and we will keep them informed well in advance of any further changes that may impact on the services offered.”
