Council welcomes Sippy Downs decision

Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot has welcomed the Minister for Local Government and Planning Paul Lucas’ approval of a development application allowing Woolworths to develop the Sippy Downs Town Centre.

"Council looks forward to continuing to work with Woolworths on the implementation stages of this important development for the Sippy Downs Town Centre," Cr Abbot said.

"The Minister has conditioned the development to have a significant residential and mixed use outcome over a number of stages, including 60 residential units in the initial stage.

"This is important in relation to building up this key town centre, adjacent the University of the Sunshine Coast.

"A university town centre based on mixed use outcomes, including a substantial residential component, is critical for this location and generally in accord with the council's overall planning objectives.

"Council, and no doubt Woolworths, will be looking in detail at the conditions attached to the Minister's decision in order to take the development approval to implementation on the ground.

"It will be great to get this long awaited town centre investment, and the jobs that go with it, happening on site."

"I’d also like to thank the Minister and staff for the significant work that’s gone into assessing and approving this development application."
