The Sunshine Coast Council today announced the selection of two community groups to manage the Nambour Moonlight Markets.

Executive Director of Community Services, Coralie Nichols said the council will work closely with SCAIP Inc and FESTURI to transition the management of the markets.

"Collaborating with Nambour Alliance, the council facilitated a transparent expression of interest process to find the best entity to run the Nambour Moonlight Markets," she said.

"SCAIP and FESTURI were selected as they will ensure strong community ownership is maintained and they have the ability to build on existing relationships with Nambour businesses."

Ms Nichols said the council would also like to acknowledge the hard work of the Nambour Alliance in delivering the much loved and successful Nambour Moonlight Markets to date.

"The Alliance will deliver their last market on 30 March and the council will work with them to ensure a smooth transition to the new managers," she said.

"The Nambour community can be assured the council will work with the new managers to ensure the Moonlight Markets continue to deliver a culturally diverse range of local products and entertainment for their enjoyment."

Simone Pearce said the Nambour Alliance was extremely pleased to be able to hand over to a Nambour-based joint venture of FESTURI and SCAIP the conduct of the Moonlight Markets.

"We are looking forward to the refreshing approach that these groups can bring with a renewed concentration on food and entertainment to make the Moonlight Market a continuing prominent event for Nambour," she said.

"The Moonlight Market has become a leader on the Sunshine Coast in its format and delivery of great entertainment for the town of Nambour, the Hinterland and the Sunshine Coast as a whole.

"It was important for us that whoever took over the running of the markets from hereon would work consistently with the plan and intent of the Market and in our view the FESTURI/SCAIP joint venture achieves this.

"The group of volunteers are locals and they have a great understanding of Nambour and what these Markets serve to achieve. We are looking forward to ongoing enjoyment and bigger and better Markets as a result of this step.

"We?had enthusiastic and significant interest in the opportunity to take over the running of this Market. What was promising was that there were a number of people who knew about the Market, understood what it was about and embraced the community service that the Market provided.

"We would like to thank all of those who expressed an interest in taking over the Market as they were all worthy candidates and we certainly invite them to continue their interest in the Market, its operations and Nambour’s role in the Sunshine Coast, particularly in the delivery of things like entertainment and Markets.?"

SCAIP President Kaye Deeley said we look forward to building upon the success of the Moonlight Markets and moving towards its sustainable future.

"We are committed to strengthening partnerships with the community, artists, stall holders and local retailers to build Nambour’s reputation as an emerging arts and cultural hub of the Sunshine Coast."

Peter Dalgleish President of FESTURI expressed his excitement to be working with SCAIP and the Nambour community on the Markets.?

"We value the importance of this local event and look forward to adding in our multicultural flavour to it," he said

"We encourage the community to talk with us about their vision for the Markets."
