Court action in Landsborough

Sunshine Coast Council has contributed $60,000 to the Landsborough Tennis Club to help with the upgrade of their popular playing courts.

Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said its welcome news for the tennis club who’ve worked hard to seek the funding to make serious structural improvements on two of the courts.

“Through their fundraising activities the Landsborough Tennis Club has raised $60,000 towards the project and the State Government has also contributed $100,000,” Cr Baberowski said.

“Two courts at the tennis club are effectively not playable due to their poor condition and subsidence impact of an encroaching creek.

“Council’s scope of work is to design and construct the sub-surface and to complete final concrete works and court levelling and surfacing.

“This is a really impressive long standing club and their executive members make sure it’s a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for all who go to play there.”

Cr Baberowski said he gives full credit to the seriously dedicated committee members who make the club successful.

“This upgrade is happening because of their commitment not only to tennis but to the whole community who can benefit from having the club so close to town,” he said.

“The location of the courts is also significant as they create part of the entry into Landsborough from the hinterland.

“They add an important layer to the fabric and character of the town - here is a cluster of green space that includes the cricket oval, parkland and tennis club that lets you know you’ve reached a township with a long standing social life and enduring character.”
