As part of the annual Get Reading! campaign, Sunshine Coast Libraries are inviting the public to come in for some criminal activity in July.

Alan Carter – popular Australian crime writer – will be hosting an evening of crime on Tuesday 12 July from 6.30pm at Maroochydore Library.

Alan Carter's recent novel Prime Cut has received rave reviews and was shortlisted for the 2010 UK Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger Award.

Set in Hopetoun, Western Australia, Prime Cut investigates the seedier side of the mining boom – the greed, exploitation and racism that underlies rapidly changing townships. With intricate plotting, a suitably down-on-his-luck protagonist, and a fascinating setting, the book is a must-read for crime buffs everywhere.

"As a keen reader and first-time published author, I'm really looking forward to getting out there to talk about books," Alan Carter said. "It's fantastic that a great initiative like Get Reading! will now run all year round."

Bookings and more information can be found at the Sunshine Coast Libraries website.
