With heavy rain causing minor flooding on the Sunshine Coast today, Sunshine Coast Council is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and remember – if it’s flooded, forget it.
Local Disaster Management Centre Co-ordinator Andrew Ryan said there had been heavy localised falls in recent hours.
“There is a possibility of flash flooding or landslips near roads, so please take extra care when driving in these wet conditions,” Mr Ryan said.
“We can’t stress enough how important it is that people do not drive through flood waters – if it’s flooded, forget it.
“The Bureau of Meteorology is providing regular updates on the current weather system and we will keep the community updated if there is more flooding.
“There are reports of around 100mm falling in just three hours in the Palmwoods and Glasshouse Mountains areas.”
Weather warnings, road closures and other important information can be found on Council’s new Disaster Hub at www.disaster.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au.
