Celebrate the wonderful world of books from Saturday, August 16 to Friday, August 22 during Children’s Book Week, at Sunshine Coast Council library branches.
Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said Children’s Book Week was an opportunity for children to connect to reading and enjoy the experience of exploring a story and taking a journey to other worlds.
“Reading assists children to create a special bond with others and this year we particularly invite grandparents to spend some quality time with their grandchildren and enjoy special storytelling sessions at Maroochydore and Kawana library branches,” Cr McKay said.
“Children are invited to join in the fun and come dressed as their favourite book character to any of the storytelling sessions.
“Adults can also meet award-winning artist and illustrator Caroline Magerl at an author talk on Thursday, 21 August at Maroochydore Library.
Carolyn is an acclaimed fine artist whose work has appeared in galleries across the world. She is also a published cartoonist and children’s author and illustrator as well as an accomplished print maker.
“The winners of the annual Children’s Book of the Year Awards will be showcased at libraries across the Coast. These prestigious awards are organised by the Children’s Book Council of Australia and are held to celebrate and promote the incredibly talented authors and illustrators working in this field.
“The 2014 Children’s Book Week artwork has been created by Ron Brooks, winner of the 2013 Picture Book of the Year Award. Ron has used a scratchboard technique and quality ink colouring to create a piece that will resonate with all ages.
“So add Children’s Book Week to your diaries and make sure you head into your local library and join in the fun and activities.”
