Drum roll for Living Smart nominees
  • Friday 05 June 2009

Mayor Bob Abbot will officially launch World Environment Day celebrations at the inaugural Living Smart Awards ceremony, 5 June. Awards celebrate outstanding community efforts in achieving sustainability.

Guest Speaker, Sidonie Carpenter, will discuss green walls and roofs, a system, which allows food and plants to be grown on the outside of buildings.

Winners will be announced in the following categories:

  • Sustainable Building Designs Awards for construction over $250K and under $250K
  • Resource Savers- households who have saved energy, water, waste and reduced their vehicle transport
  • Sustainable Transport Champions
  • Edible Landscape Award for growing productive food in the backyard

The Living Smart Glossies Awards have been running for over four years as a Noosa Council event, however, this year’s awards are very special, bringing the whole region together in the inaugural Sunshine Coast Regional Council Living Smart Awards.

Winners receive a “feather” trophy made from recycled aluminium car pistons, with a base made from Camphor Laurel - a wide-spread weed in SEQ. The trophy reflects ‘closing the loop’ and turning potential waste into a resource.
