Exporting makes business rosy

From a great idea to a popular product that’s now sold in four different countries.

That’s been the exciting seven-month journey for Sunshine Coast entrepreneur Channelle Louise, managing director of Cilk Rose Water, a unique luxury beauty drink supplement made from roses that is fast gaining global traction and also featured in Vogue Magazine.

How did she do it? All will be revealed at next week’s Sunshine Coast Council Export Networking Event, where Channelle will be among a handful of local export experts who’ll share the secrets of their overseas success.

Ms Louise said she was excited to pass on some of her key learnings to other Sunshine Coast businesses who are looking to improve or expand their own export ventures.

“Our brand was launched online in February and our strongest markets have been the USA, Singapore and China.,” she said.

“We are now working on export strategies for Korea and growing our presence in our existing markets,” she said.

“One of the most important lessons we’ve learnt in our short exporting experiences is that most Asian markets prefer product packaging in English and also that your success in exporting can be defined by the opportunities you say ‘no’ to.

“I’m looking forward to having an opportunity to share more of my story with other local businesses at the Export Networking event next week and passing on some of the valuable things we’ve learned along the way like the importance of working with marketing professionals who speak Chinese, understanding Asian cultures and being proficient in Asian social platforms and buying timetables.”

The Export Networking Event will be held on Tuesday, September 27 from 4.30pm to 6pm at Brightwater Hotel, 15 Freshwater Street, Mountain Creek.

Other local export experts who will present on the day include:

  • Nicholas White, CEO of Gourmet Garden, the global leader in chilled convenient herbs, spices and seasonings
  • Erina Kilmore, Director of Sales, Australia Zoo, a world leader in conservation of wildlife and their environments and the world’s busiest wildlife hospital.

Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Stephen Robinson said the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Strategy aims for 20% of goods and services produced in the region to be exported by 2033 – and council’s export program helps set up local business to achieve this goal.

“Business collaboration and information sharing is also a key emphasis within REDS and local businesses who attend next Tuesday’s event will have opportunities to network and connect with prominent Sunshine Coast exporters like Channelle Louise and other local companies who’ve been successfully exporting for a number of years,” Cr Robinson said.

“Council’s export program includes a range of face to face networking events, we have an online LinkedIn group with some 400 members and we also offer education and coaching programs.”
