Sunshine Coast Council has adopted a Master Plan for the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Complex which is an integral sport, recreation and community facility servicing the Glasshouse precinct and Sunshine Coast community.
Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Complex Master Plan’s intent is to provide a 15 year vision for the complex, identifying what it should look like and how it should function into the future.
"The adoption of the master plan will guide and inform staged development. It also provides a framework for strategies to improve overall recreation opportunities for users of the complex," Cr Baberowski said.
"We need to make sure the complex meets current and future needs of its growing catchment area.
"Any impact on residential development in close proximity to the?complex and the preservation of remnantvegetation both required particularly careful?consideration in the development of the master plan. ?
"As future demand for additional playing fields develops, this?master?plan has also explored the planning and utilisation of the adjoining 12.5ha land parcel as part of the long-term vision for the sports complex."
The Glasshouse Mountains Sports Complex Master Plan has analysed the current usage, population projections and future needs. Extensive community consultation including meetings, workshops and surveys of current and potential future users assisted to develop the master plan and guided the development of a draft concept plan in early 2012.
The Glasshouse Mountains Sports Complex is home to a range of sports including Soccer, Cricket, Netball and Touch Football. The facility is managed by Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club who undertakes all maintenance and operational costs on behalf of the sporting bodies.
Key features of the master plan include:
- Improved connectivity into and around the site including pathways
- Proposed additional car parking with improved site access and drainage
- Introduction of recreational elements for the community through proposed recreational park, playground and trail network
- Flexibility in design to adapt to any future changes in demand for playing fields.
