Grant helps Maleny celebrate its history

A piece of the Sunshine Coast’s history has been celebrated with the publication of a history booklet about Maleny and the surrounding areas, titled From Mud to Magic: a history of Maleny.

The booklet, published by the Maleny Visitor Information Centre, was made possible with the help of a $2000 Community Grant from Sunshine Coast Council and will be officially launched tomorrow.

Division 5 and Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay, who is launching the booklet, said that the project highlighted the benefits of council’s Community Grants program.

"It’s great to see the finished product when a community group receives funding – it’s a fantastic reminder that the Community Grants program is helping our community to deliver on projects that are important to them," said Cr McKay.

"This booklet was created in response to the many inquiries that volunteers at the visitor information centre receive about Maleny’s history – it will be helpful to those who wish to learn about the history and will also be valuable to those community members whose families were a part of it."

"This particular project also reflects a strong partnership between the community group and council though the heritage library, which provided most of the images in the book."

From Mud to Magic: a history of Maleny will be launched at Maleny Library on Friday 26 October at 9.15am – it will be available for sale at the library and the visitor information centre.
