A long-term project to deliver a strategic recreation trail that links Nambour to Coolum is underway and council wants to hear what you think.

The Draft Nambour to Coolum Strategic Recreation Trail (Draft Trail) offers an opportunity to provide the first east-west recreation link on the Sunshine Coast whilst also connecting the hinterland with the Coastal Pathway.

Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson said the Draft Trail consisted of a network of local trails, a primary trail and extensions linking Nambour, Coolum and Bli Bli.

“Proposed as a staged project, the Draft Trail starts with shorter local trails and expands to a range of trail options in the future,” Cr Rogerson said.

“The strategic approach over a longer period of time will enable council to undertake more detailed consultation and planning to determine some of the more difficult to achieve strategic links.

“The Draft Trail is predominately on public land and proposes approximately 48km of diverse trail experiences with multiple route options when completed.”

Division 9 Councillor Stephen Robinson said community feedback on the Draft Trail would be very important to help guide further planning and would be used to ensure the final trail addressed any concerns and interests.

“It is intended to stage the trail development with a focus on local trails in Nambour, Coolum and Bli Bli, providing shorter standalone recreational experiences for local residents,” Cr Robinson said.

“This is a very complex project, requiring extensive investigation and consultation, so it is important the community takes the time to review the proposed trail and provides feedback to help shape the final trail.

“Following the community consultation, any relevant amendments will be made to the Draft Trail before seeking council’s approval to commence a detailed planning phase.”
