Have your say on the use of new community rooms on Kawana Island
  • Friday 17 June 2011

If you had the opportunity to use a small community space in Kawana Island for your local community group what would you do?

This is the question being asked by Sunshine Coast Council to the local Kawana Island community for use of the ex sales centre at Double Bay, Kawana Island (next to Montego’s restaurant).

Get along to a special open day at the centre on Saturday 25 June between 1pm and 4pm to view the space and take part in a survey and discussions about how it can be best utilised by local residents.

The afternoon will also feature lots of family entertainment to keep the kids happy including face painting, promotion activities from Hot 91 FM as well as some exciting prizes and giveaways.

Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson said council had recently purchased the ex-sales centre at the Kawana Island complex and was calling on the community for input on best uses.

"We are looking to hand this centre over to the community to take advantage of the many different purposes it may serve now and into the future," he said.

"Kawana Island is a relatively new and growing community, with real estate in high demand so I’m confident local residents will find the new venue beneficial for a variety of uses.

"Why not come along to the community open day to check out the facility, have your say and enjoy some great family fun in the process."

The centre features a couple of meeting rooms, offices, kitchen and outside spaces. It could be used by one or more community groups for a variety of different purposes such as yoga, mum’s club, kids club, local business networking events and meetings. All options considered will take into account any potential impact on nearby local residents.
