Head to the library to celebrate Seniors Week
  • Thursday 25 July 2013

Seniors Week will be celebrated from 19 to 25 August 2013 with a range of free activities planned at various Sunshine Coast Council library branches across the Coast.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said council acknowledges the vital role that seniors play in our vibrant region.

“Seniors Week is an opportunity for people of all ages to take a moment to recognise and respect the significant contribution seniors make to the Sunshine Coast,” she said.

“The 2013 Seniors Week theme is, Respect and Social Inclusion, which is in line with the seven guiding principles that underpin council’s Access and Inclusion Plan 2011-2016 - access, inclusion, equity, respect, dignity, participation and safety.

“To join in the Seniors Week celebrations some of our libraries will be holding a range of free activities for seniors – with many of this year’s activities involving technology.

“Seniors can stay better connected with their families and friends across the world by becoming tech savvy and learning how to use technology such as an iPad or how to download eBooks. These sessions are presented for the absolute beginner and aim to enhance the ability of seniors, so no prior experience is needed.

“There are also information sessions about organic home gardening, explore your family history or you could even accompany your grandchildren to story time sessions.

“So during Seniors Week I urge each and every one of us, to pay respect and thank the seniors that have made a difference to our lives.

“On behalf of council I would like to personally thank the many seniors who volunteer their valuable time to help deliver the various council programs across the region. They truly do make a significant contribution.”

The following range of Seniors Week events are now open for bookings by calling 1300 LIBRARY (1300 542 727) or visit council’s library website.
