How will your community celebrate Christmas?

While it might seem a bit early to start talking about Christmas, Sunshine Coast Council is planning ahead to prepare a community calendar of festive season event information.

This calendar will then be shared across the Sunshine Coast region so that we can all get involved in what is happening locally this festive season.

Community Policy and Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said council was committed to supporting opportunities for residents and visitors to experience and participate in events and cultural activities throughout the year and, in particular, over the festive season.

"We are calling on local communities to share details about their events, so local residents can come together to celebrate the festive season in a variety of fun, social and diverse ways," she said.

"So if you have something planned – no matter how big or small – council wants to hear from you."

Some examples of the types of events include, but are not limited to, street parades, festivals, carols, street parties, displays and community gatherings celebrating Christmas, New Year’s Eve or Australia Day.

To display your event regionally, submit details either via an easy to fill in online form on council’s website atwww.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/festive or by contacting the customer service centre on 5475 7272. Submissions close 31 August 2011.

Council has also started planning for sponsorship opportunities for some of the biggest festive season events on the Coast including Christmas Carols, New Year’s Eve and Australia Day celebrations.
