Jobs the top priority for new Mayor

Newly elected Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said he will make creating jobs his number one priority over the next four years.

Speaking at the opening of the Sunshine Coast Business Expo, Mr Jamieson said he’s been given a mandate to build a stronger economy and protect the environment.

"I will represent all the people on the Sunshine Coast – to make this region an even better place to live, work and do business," Mr Jamieson said.

"I’m humbled that nearly a third of voters placed me as their first choice when there were eight candidates to choose from.

"I’ve already met with Sunshine Coast Council Chief Executive Officer John Knaggs on several occasions and have been in regular contact with councillors.

"It’s going to take a great team effort to deliver a stronger economy and protect the environment – and I’m confident we have the right people for the job.

"I will make every day count as I harness this experience and expertise to help and encourage existing businesses to expand and employ more people.

"Under my leadership, I want council to concentrate on doing the right things – so we get the right results."
