ImageAs part of the First 5 Forever early childhood literacy program, council invites families to join Storytime at Sunshine Plaza at 9.30am and 10.30am on Wednesday, August 24.

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said research shows that up to 90% of a child’s brain development happens in the first five years.

“That’s why parents are the most important teacher their child will ever have,” Cr McKay said.

“Whether it is reading, talking, singing or playing every day is important and the good news is Sunshine Coast Libraries are bringing storytime to the Riverwalk stage at Sunshine Plaza on August 24.

“Storytime is being involved with and sharing some of the best picture books for children our libraries have to offer.

“Children will engage with stories, sing songs and create their own unique story responses.

“There will be lots of fun for toddlers and their care givers.

“While at the storytime session everyone is invited to register for their free library membership.

“You will discover the great range of benefits of being a library member with everything from rhymetime, toy library and so much more.”

Sunshine Plaza is located at 154-164 Horton Parade, Maroochydore. No bookings are required.

First 5 Forever is a universal family literacy program aimed at supporting stronger language and literacy environments for young children from zero to five years and their families.

The program is funded by the Queensland State Government and is being delivered by 320 public libraries across Queensland.
