Last chance to nominate your local hero
  • Wednesday 04 December 2013

Nominations for the 2014 Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards close on Friday 13 December – so make sure you don’t miss the chance to recognise inspiring individuals, organisations and groups, and celebrate the difference they make in our community.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said the Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards provide an opportunity to nominate people who have made a contribution to the region and publicly recognise and honour those achievements.

“The Awards encourage all of us to look to our own backyard for the people and the organisations we know work hard, and usually without fanfare, to make the Sunshine Coast a better place,” he said.

“Importantly, they acknowledge the unsung heroes, the people who make a difference to our region – we all know someone like that.

“I encourage you to take the time to nominate a local Aussie hero before 13 December for the 2014 Australia Day Awards.”

  • Citizen of the Year sponsored by Seven Local News
  • Young Citizen of the Year sponsored by University of the Sunshine Coast
  • Senior Citizen of the Year sponsored by Maroochy RSL
  • Community -Group or Organisation sponsored by Sunshine Coast Daily
  • Creative
  • Environment sponsored by Cleantech Industries Sunshine Coast
  • Sport and Recreation sponsored by Sunshine Coast Sports Federation.

The winners will be announced by the Mayor at the sixth annual Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards ceremony on 24 January 2014.

In February 2014 the Award recipients will be invited to attend the prestigious inaugural recipient’s breakfast to be held at Maroochy RSL. This event will feature special guest speaker Local Government Australia Day Ambassador and former International Rugby League star, Shane Webcke who will join the Mayor to celebrate and recognise the outstanding achievements of these deserving individual and groups.
