It’s just a jump to the left, and a step to the right!
Following the huge success of the Special Event screening of Storm Surfers, Sunshine Coast Council’s Arthouse Cinema Nambour presents the screening of the 1975 classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 7:30pm on Thursday, July 24.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1930s through to early 1970s. The film follows newly engaged couple Brad and Janet, who after car troubles are forced to seek refuge by the light over at the Frankenstein place.
The fun then unfolds as we meet a group of Transylvanians doing the ‘Time Warp’, are introduced to Dr Frank-N-Furter a sweet transvestite, and are then invited to travel up to the lab, see what’s on the slab, all while you shiver with anticipation!
Although the film was largely ignored upon release, it soon gained notoriety as a midnight movie and audience members began dressing as the characters. Still in limited release nearly four decades after its premiere, it has the longest running theatrical release in film history.
Audience participation is encouraged with audiences welcome to come dressed as their favourite character (suspenders and all)!
Tickets are $14 for adults, $11 for concessions, $9 for film club members, $11 for full-time students and $9 for children under 13 years.
The Nambour Civic Centre is located on the upper level of the Centenary Square complex, located at 52 – 64 Currie Street, Nambour. With the installation of a new lift, exciting events such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show are more accessible for all of the community to enjoy. Parking is available via Mill Street across from the new Coles Supermarket.
