Local Disaster Management group prepares for cyclone season
  • Thursday 04 November 2010

Exercise Spring Cyclone is the name of the training scenario that Sunshine Coast council and emergency services staff will face to hone their disaster management skills in time for the cyclone season.

The annual disaster simulation exercise provides a realistic scenario for members of the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) to practise their disaster management co-ordination skills.

With the Seasonal Outlook issued by the Bureau of Meteorology predicting above average tropical cyclone activity this coming season, including above normal rainfall, the LDMG use these exercises to ensure that they are prepared.

It’s also a timely reminder to make sure residents are prepared for the storm season.

The media are invited to view the exercise and then interview key players Deputy District Disaster Co-ordinator (Queensland Police), Regional Director Emergency Services Queensland, Peter Toomey, and Local Disaster Management Group Acting Chair (Sunshine Coast Council), Alan Rogers, at 9.30am on Friday 5 November.
