Looking for class clowns for national secondary schools competition

In conjunction with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, the Sunshine Coast Council proudly supports the national secondary schools competition Class Clowns with heats being held at the Nambour Civic Centre on 14 March 2012.

This unique competition is open to secondary students in years 9 to 12 who have a five minute stand up, satire, musical or sketch act.

Local winners will be given the opportunity progress to the State final to be held in Brisbane on 25 March 2012. State final winners will be flown to the national grand final in Melbourne during the Comedy Festival for a chance to win prize money for themselves and their school.

The Class Clowns competition provides children with an opportunity to develop their confidence, build performance and speaking skills while creating strong friendships with like-minded teens.

Previous winners in this competition include Talkin 'bout Your Generation regular Josh Thomas and Triple J Breakfast host, Tom Ballard.

Contestants will be invited to attend a pre-performance rehearsal workshop with a professional festival comedian to polish their act from 2pm to 4pm with competition heats commencing at 5pm. The show will commence with the festival comedian as MC and audiences are welcome to attend.
