New lanes open on Evans Street in Maroochydore

The Sunshine Coast’s biggest local road upgrade has taken shape, with new lanes now open on sections of Maroochydore’s Evans Street.

New lanes are open to traffic at the intersections of Plaza Parade/Evans Street and Maroochydore Road/Evans Street.

Division 8 Councillor Jason OPray, who inspected construction progress today, said there had been a noticeable improvement in traffic flow.

“Opening new lanes between Plaza Parade and Millwell Road has already helped traffic flow through the existing signalised intersection and it should only getter better from now until construction is complete,” Cr OPray said.

“Work on the centre island median has progressed, new landscaping is in place and traffic has moved onto the new southbound lane as we head into the last stages of work along the eastern side of the corridor.

“Moving traffic onto more new lanes is another milestone for the project and we’re now working on the final phases of the four-lane road upgrade.

“Additional landscaping and pathways are also underway, and gateway entry statements will be installed by the end of the year.

“The whole area is looking great and I know many residents and business owners are as excited as I am to see the end result.

“Council would like to thank the local community for their patience and ongoing support of the project during construction.”

The temporary roundabout at Primary School Court has also been removed to allow construction of the permanent U-turn facility.
