The Butter Factory Arts Centre at Cooroy will show highly-regarded local artist David Parker’s latest exhibition for the first time at 5.30pm on Thursday 30 April.

Two years in the making David Parker - New, marks a whole new direction for him and it has already attracted interest from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Noosa-based artist David Parker has been exhibiting for more than 17 years on the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, and internationally in New York.

He is represented in collections in Sydney and London as well as several Queensland universities and has won many prestigious art prizes.

Community Policy and Programs Portfolio holder Jenny McKay said David had been exhibiting in and around Noosa for many years.

“We’re delighted to host David’s exhibition at the Butter Factory as his work is well known to many coast residents,” Councillor McKay said.

In his new series, David uses oil washes to create almost water colour-like figurative and landscape images overlaid with symbolic, sometimes quirky, line drawings rendered in thick, boldly applied paint. David said the resulting canvasses are strong, striking and very large.

“I’ve been working around a few interests for some time now and have recently found a way to combine these into a cohesive body of work which I hope feels 21st century,” David said.

“I’m really looking forward to showing my work locally and seeing the work together for the first time.”

Art lovers can meet David at the exhibition on Saturday 2 May or Saturday 23 May between 10am and 4pm as well as at the opening night Thursday 30 April.

The Butter Factory Arts Centre, located at 10 Maple Street Cooroy, is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm. The public is most welcome and entry is free. For more information call 5472 0222.
