The countdown to the region’s biggest free end-of-year event – New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba – has begun.

The Esplanade, Mooloolaba is the place to be this NYE with a feast of free entertainment to suit people of all ages and tastes.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said more than 45,000 locals and visitors were expected to welcome in the New Year at Mooloolaba.

“New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba is an event that can be enjoyed by the entire community,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“Council delivers this iconic event in a relaxed, safe alcohol free, security patrolled and fenced event zone.

“Community safety is our highest priority, so if you are out celebrating this New Year’s Eve, wherever you are, I encourage you, your families and friends to stay safe and look out for each other.”

Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson said there was something for people of all ages to enjoy in this year’s program.

“With a line-up of entertainment across two stages, including the much loved Minions Musical Experience and a set by The Potbelleez, there is plenty of fun to be had for the young and young at heart,” Cr Thompson said.

“Gates open at 4pm, with lots of free family activities on offer including face painting, amusements and roving entertainment, plus the Minions Musical Experience at 5.35pm and the Marvel Go Green Show on the main stage at 6.30pm.

“After the fireworks at 8.30pm, Busby Marou will continue the celebrations on the main stage, followed by amazing local musician Carl Wockner.

“The Potbelleez will bring in the New Year, with their set starting at 11pm.

“Down on the Beach Stage, SeaFM will be broadcasting live from 4pm, followed by a live Clubcast from 7.30pm with DJ’s playing right through until midnight.”

“To welcome in the New Year there will be a spectacular fireworks display at midnight.”

Food will be available from local vendors, restaurants and cafes on The Esplanade.

Council and Translink will be providing free buses across the Sunshine Coast from 3pm on New Year’s Eve (Thursday, December 31) so leave your car at home and jump on a free bus.

Don’t forget New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba is a drug, alcohol and glass free event. Intoxicated people will not be permitted entry.

A reminder to pet owners in the vicinity to ensure their pets are safe and secure for the duration of the event as the noise of fireworks may cause them to become agitated.

New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba is delivered in partnership with a number of organisations including Queensland Police, SES, Queensland Fire and Rescue, Street Angels and Queensland Ambulance Services.

The celebrations at Mooloolaba are only one of a number of New Year’s celebrations planned across the Sunshine Coast. The Kings Beach, Caloundra and Coolum Beach events are also supported by council.
