Five and a half million dollars of Sunshine Coast Regional Council funding is still allocated for the development of the $23 million stadium at Stockland Park.
Division 3 Councillor and Stockland Park board member, Keryn Jones, said media reports that no money was allocated to the proposed Stockland Park Stadium complex in this week’s budget hand down do not tell the whole story.
“Funding was not allocated in the Sunshine Coast Council’s 08/09 budget because $5.5 million was already provided for the Stockland Park Stadium in the Caloundra City Council's 07/08 budget,” said Cr Jones.
“Council will consider reproviding the Stockland Park Stadium funding, along with all other outstanding budget items from the 07/08 budget into the 08/09 budget in mid to late August,” she said.
“By this time we should have received the results of the Chief Executive Officer’s review, and a decision will be made on the status of the funding.”
The Stockland Park Board will give Council a presentation on Monday (7 July) to provide all councillors with a better understanding of the pros and cons of the project.
Five million dollars was pledged by the Federal Government for the stadium last financial year. Council is now waiting on that funding agreement to be finalised. This could take up to six months. Meanwhile negotiations with TAFE on the details of their $8.5 million commitment are ongoing.
