A funding package of $200,000 was this week approved by Sunshine Coast Council for the construction of a multi-use community facility the Meridan State College.
Division 1 Councillor Anna Grosskreutz, said the decision recognised council’s commitment to increasing community infrastructure in emerging communities such as Caloundra West.
"Such partnership approaches to improve the facilities available to the community are a fantastic way to spread council’s dollar further," Cr Grosskreutz said.
"This decision will ensure a facility already programmed for construction at one of our local schools, will now be shared with the local community more generally.
This partnership approach is in line with council’s Social Infrastructure Policy and is a great way to maximise council’s resources for the benefit of the growing community."
Julie Kornmann College Director welcomed the announcement.
"It’s wonderful news and we are very grateful to Sunshine Coast Council for supporting this project, particularly for the support from Cr Grosskreutz," she said.
The multi-use facility will include three adjoining class room spaces with sound proof retractable doors that can be closed to create individual classroom size spaces or opened to create a bigger, performing arts theatre.
