Sunshine Coast Water, the Sunshine Coast Council’s water supply and sewerage services business unit, worked through the early hours of this morning to repair a burst water main at the corner of Doolan St and Sunhaven Ct, Nambour.
Sunshine Coast Water’s Operations Manager, Gary Sabburg, said that the council’s after-hours service was alerted to the incident at 3.21am and crews were immediately dispatched to investigate.
“We had crews out within 10 minutes of receiving the call from our after-hours service,” he said.
“To isolate the problem and repair the burst, several valves in the area needed to be shut down, which affected water supply to approximately 60 lots, including the Nambour Hospital.
“As a contingency, the hospital is able to receive water from at least two water supply points.
“Its primary source from Landers Shute was disrupted due to the main burst. Our crews, in conjunction with hospital’s plumber, worked to switch the hospital’s water supply to its secondary source from Image Flat within an hour of first receiving the call.
“We had to work on the hospital’s water supply as a matter of priority. Unfortunately some residents and businesses experienced disruption to their water supply. However, our crews had all affected properties reconnected by 11am.”
Sunshine Coast Water has offered to work with the hospital to enhance its supply and ensure that alternate water supplies are appropriate.
