The North Shore Connection Road is the name of the new road that links the Sunshine Coast motorway to the Sunshine Coast Airport and Maroochy River North Shore communities thanks to Kevin Blacklaw.
The name was selected from almost 40 submissions to a Sunshine Coast Council road naming opportunity, offering locals a chance to adopt this high profile road as their own.
Local councillor, Debbie Blumel, said the extensive list of names submitted recognising our aboriginal heritage, our pioneers, historical moments in time and our environment made it difficult to choose only one winner.
“I would like to congratulate Mr Blacklaw for coming up with this winning name that acknowledges the Maroochy River North Shore locality.
“I would also like to thank all who took part – the list of names was fantastic, making our choice a difficult one.
“However, I can assure participants that your great suggestions won’t be lost - we will be keeping them on a register to consider as names for future new roads in the area.”
Mr Blacklaw, who is president of the North Shore Traders Association, will be presented with a certificate of appreciation and invited to attend the upcoming official state government opening of the road, as council’s guest.
The Sunshine Coast motorway and interchange upgrade is part of the Queensland Government’s Department of Main Roads South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program.
