Access to events such as the OPERATIF! opera concert series and children’s shows such as Peppa Pig will be so much easier now, thanks to the installation of a lift at Nambour Civic Centre.

Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson said the Nambour Civic Centre was a popular venue and had hosted thousands of performances over the years, bringing a rich diversity of entertainment and events for all ages to the Coast.

“We have received feedback from our customers that access has been difficult for people with disabilities, the elderly and young families with prams,” Cr Rogerson said.

“Council is committed to providing quality community performance venues that all of the community can access and enjoy.

“It gives me great pleasure to confirm a lift has been installed within the Centenary Square complex and opens directly into the Arthouse Cinema section of the Civic Centre.

“Council leases the Nambour Civic Centre from Centenary Square Pty Ltd and I would like to personally thank the Directors for making the installation of the new lift possible.

“The lift provides greater access to the much-loved Nambour Civic Centre for people with limited mobility as well as providing another access point to the venue for the wider community.”

John Sorrentino, one of the Directors of Centenary Square Pty Ltd, said they were pleased to support council in creating more events for the Civic Centre by making it accessible to as many people as possible.

“With great public transport access and onsite parking facilities, Centenary Square is ideally located to be the hub of Nambour,” Mr Sorrentino said.

“We look forward to continuing to work with council to make Nambour a great destination and an even greater place to live, work and play.”

Business Manager of STEPS Group Australia Sam Coward said the lift is a great advancement in catering to the needs of people with a disability.

“It is great to see our cultural and community hub has equal access for all its patrons,” Mr Coward said.
