Sunshine Coast Council today endorsed the appointment of two new directors who will add new community based and business expertise to the Noosa Biosphere Board.

Economic Development Portfolio and Director of Noosa Biosphere Limited, Councillor Lew Brennan, said he welcomed the two new directors Geoffrey Walters and Peter Schofield to the Board of Noosa Biosphere Limited.

"Mr Walters has been selected as a new director because of his extensive business experience and knowledge and his long standing relationship and support for the Noosa Biosphere," Cr Brennan said.

"He brings vital experience to the board from his role as general manager of United Synergies, a not-for-profit community organisation which assists families, and in particular young people, to help them achieve their full potential.

"His appointment will greatly assist the board to seek out and build the support of young people, as well as the community, for the Noosa Biosphere.

"Peter Schofield has been endorsed as a social board nomination for his experience in project management and strategic planning. He has also had considerable community involvement and support for sustainable development of Noosa and the Sunshine Coast.

"I’d like to welcome the newest members to the board, and look forward to working with them into the near future."

The NBL Board is tasked with building partnerships and alliances that drive innovation and identify opportunities for the region flowing from United Nations recognition of Noosa’s biosphere status.

The decision to appoint the two new directors to the Noosa Biosphere Board was made at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on Wednesday 27 October 2010.
