New busking program proposed for Sunshine Coast
  • Tuesday 02 September 2008

The introduction of a regional busking program for the Sunshine Coast was supported by councillors on the Service Delivery Committee meeting today before being referred to next week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council for adoption.

A working group across council, in consultation with a number of business operators and busking professionals, has developed new guidelines to establish one unified busking program for the Sunshine Coast.

The program aims to produce a seamless process of application and operational guidelines for buskers with clearly defined responsibilities for performing at defined busking locations.

25 suitable busking locations across the region have been identified by the working group and up to 50 uninsured buskers holding a permit and operating in the locations specified by council can be covered by council’s public liability insurance.

Councillors on the committee referred the proposal to the Ordinary Meeting on Thursday 11 September for consideration by the whole council.
