A brand new shelter and other picnic facilities are now in place and ready for visitors to popular Tumbledown Park, Bellara Drive in Currimundi to enjoy, thanks to Sunshine Coast Council.

Division 3 Councillor Keryn Jones said the contemporary new timber shelter has replaced the old degraded rotunda.

"The $85,188 new shelter structure – fitted out with two large picnic tables and a BBQ – provides a modern, comfortable, undercover family gathering place," Cr Jones said.

"The shelter also provides a great viewing platform for parents to relax while keeping an eye on their kids enjoying the park’s high quality playground, skate park and basketball half court."

Cr Jones said unfortunately there had been a lot of vandalism at this park.

"Residents may have noticed the shade sail has been removed from the playground. This was due to the constant vandalism," she said.

"Playground and/or sail modifications are being pursued so that the sail can be reinstated as soon as possible in such a way that the risk of further vandalism is minimised."
