New era for the Coast

Mayor Mark Jamieson has hailed the turning of the first sod at the site of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital as the dawn of a new era for the region.

Mayor Jamieson joined Premier Campbell Newman, local member and Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie and builders Exemplar Health to mark the milestone.

“This project ticks all the right boxes; more jobs, a stronger economy and improved health services,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“The hospital will be the centre piece of the Oceanside Kawana Health Precinct, which will provide the biggest economic boost in the region’s history.

“It will inject more than $680 million a year into the local economy with the flow-on effect to benefit local businesses.

“The precinct will help to create a sustainable economy on the Sunshine Coast – which allows a sustainable community and a sustainable environment.

Sunshine Coast Council wants to make sure as many local businesses as possible get work from this massive investment.

“That’s why it organised four tendering information sessions earlier this year to let locals know what they need to do to bid for work on the hospital.

“Job creation will continue after the construction stops, with thousands of people needed to work at the hospital.

“Allied health services will also reap the benefits of the new precinct as the Sunshine Coast becomes the best location in Australia for health providers to invest.

The Oceanside Kawana Health Precinct includes four precincts:

1. Oceanside Kawana Health Precinct

2. Oceanside Health Hub

3. The Learning and Transit Centre

4. Oceanside Town Centre
