New strategy to grow a broader economic base

Council today made progress toward creating wealth and jobs for the Sunshine Coast with the adoption of the Sunshine Coast Economic Development Strategy 2010—2014.

Economic Development and Entrepreneurship portfolio Councillor, Lew Brennan, said council has acted quickly to set the economic agenda for the Sunshine Coast.

“Economic development is a top priority in council’s corporate plan and today’s decision to approve this strategy reinforces that we are open for business,” Cr Brennan said.

“This new strategy, developed with input from local business, delivers what is needed to build a robust economy on the Sunshine Coast.

“The Strategy is about practical, on the ground delivery. It addresses what local business tell us it wants and needs.”

“But while the strategy was adopted today, council is already delivering on this blueprint with the infrastructure agreement for Sippy Downs Tech Park; the natural advantage investment campaign, sector development with the creation of the food and beverage group and the tourism industry reform, just a few examples.

“We are also ensuring that economic impact is a key element of all the decision making processes of council.

“Council will continue to work closely with the range of public, private and community stakeholders to successfully deliver the strategy and ensure that we are flexible enough to respond as necessary to any changes that are occurring in the economy.”
