Patrons at The Events Centre, Caloundra can now enjoy extra comfort when they are watching one of the outstanding range of performances hosted in the main theatre of the Sunshine Coast’s primary performance venue.

The much anticipated 900 new theatre seats were officially opened today by The Events Centre chairman Cr Tim Dwyer in front of a sold out audience attending a performance of The Sleeping Beauty by The Australian Ballet Kids.

Cr Dwyer said the seating upgrade was just the start of improvements planned for The Events Centre.

“The old theatre seats had served the needs of patrons for more than 35 years and the upgrade will now ensure our valued patrons enjoy a better, more comfortable theatre-going experience,” Cr Dwyer said.

“It follows valuable feedback from Coast residents and visitors who love coming to The Events Centre to see the wide range of high-quality performances we have on show here throughout the year.

“Council and The Events Centre Board and management team has worked closely with leading industry seating suppliers Maxwood Technology and Innova to install what is a very modern and comfortable seating solution.

“With this upgrade, and extra improvements to come, The Events Centre will be an even more attractive venue to host events and will attract even more people through the doors.

“Our patrons are going to have plenty of opportunities to experience the 900 new seats with a kaleidoscope of entertainment for all ages on offer in our upcoming theatre program.”

The Events Centre’s popular Playhouse Theatre, a smaller and more intimate venue, will undergo a $665,000 facelift, starting in August this year.

New ceilings, walls and floor will have acoustic linings to theatre standards, and the seating will also be upgraded with modern, comfortable seats.

The redevelopment comes after The Events Centre and council successfully applied for funding from the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

The line-up of coming events at The Events Centre is available at www.theeventscentre.com.au.

As well as hosting arts and entertainment, The Events Centre offers a range of options for dinners, meetings, conferences, special events and exhibitions.
