Construction work on Stage 2 of the Park Road boardwalk from First Point to Little Cove in Noosa Heads is planned to begin on 18 July.
The plan is to complete the project over an eight-week window between school holiday periods of June and September, weather permitting.
Division 11 Councillor Russell Green said council has timed the upgrade to get it started and finished with as little interruption to business and tourism as possible.
"Stage 2 will see the existing boardwalk removed and replaced with both a suspended timber deck and concrete paving," Cr Green said.
"It will be lit by downward-directional lighting, which will provide safe travel for pedestrians while removing any impact on nocturnal wildlife.
"We will also be taking out some of the steeper elements of the pathway to make the walk easier for those with prams or disabilities.
"A special design has been included to ensure the boardwalk does not disturb the health of an ancient paper bark tree, estimated to be 200-to-300 years old.
"The boardwalk span has been increased at that point to ensure the roots of the tree are not disturbed."
There will be less noise with this stage compared to the previous; however council will still need to close one lane to traffic during the construction period.
Cr Green said apart from extending the boardwalk, Stage 2 will also provide a safer pedestrian crossing at Little Cove.
"We are aware the safety of the crossing has been an issue for many residents," Cr Green said.
"A raised pedestrian crossing at Little Cove will be constructed to help control traffic speeds and improve safety."
"I’ve also allocated funds from Division 11’s emergent works budget to revitalise the access to Little Cove. Those plans will be available for viewing in the coming weeks."
Council staff will be working closely with Tourism Noosa and the Hastings Street Association to minimise any impact on trading activities during the construction period.
