Nominations are being sought by 13 November for community members who have a commitment to cultural heritage to join the Sunshine Coast Cultural Heritage Reference Group.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the Sunshine Coast Cultural Heritage Reference Group provides strategic advice on preserving and accessing cultural heritage in the region.

“As Chair of the Reference Group, I invite interested people with experience in the heritage sector, business, tourism or marketing to nominate for these important voluntary positions which are available for a period of up to two years, “Cr McKay said.

“There are 10 positions available and the successful applicants will join representatives of council, historical societies, heritage groups and associations, business, tourism and the community to help raise the profile of cultural heritage in the region.

“They will have the opportunity to contribute to a shared vision for cultural heritage that is inclusive, relevant, and innovative.

“The Reference Group meets four times a year and assists in forming strategic priorities for expenditure of the Heritage Levy.

“Importantly, they also support the development of a regional network of individuals, organisations, and museums in the heritage sector.

“The Reference Group identifies partners and opportunities to preserve, access, and enhance cultural heritage across our beautiful region.”

Applicants who can demonstrate a commitment to cultural heritage are invited to apply by 5pm Wednesday 13 November 2013. A nomination pack and selection criteria can be obtained by emailing culturalheritage@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au .
