Old phones for chickens

Council is encouraging residents to support MobileMuster’s ‘old phones for chickens’ campaign that will donate a live chicken to poverty stricken families for every phone sent in before 2010.

For every mobile phone recycled through the campaign, MobileMuster will donate the gift of a chicken valued at $10 through Oxfam Unwrapped. The campaign is capped at $10,000, or 1,000 chickens.

Waste Management Manager Wayne Schafer said council is dedicated to providing as many recycling opportunities for Coast residents as possible.

“We are encouraging residents to send in their old mobile phones to MobileMuster before 31 December using a special mailing label,” Mr. Schafer said.

“A free reply paid mailing label can be downloaded from council’s website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au, the campaign website www.mobilemuster.com.au or by calling council’s customer service centre on 5475 7272.

“Council currently supports several national recycling initiatives including DrumMuster, National Recycling Week and Clean up Australia Day,” Mr Schafer said
