Peregian Beach Park planned improvements ready for show

The local community has spoken and now Sunshine Coast Council’s Peregian Beach Park landscape concept plan is available to view.

Division 11 Councillor Russell Green said the landscape concept plan aims to improve the Peregian Beach Park’s amenity and enhance the recreational experience and activities within the park.

“Feedback resulting from a thorough community engagement process has brought about this much needed upgrade and the community’s input is greatly appreciated,” he said.

“During 2012, council engaged independent consultants to ask the local community, key stakeholders and park users about their views and preferences for future park improvements.

“Council used the information identified during the community consultation to define the content of the landscape concept plan.

“The landscape concept plan comprises both short term and long term upgrades, and provides a basis for future funding, detailed design, construction and the refurbishment of key components within the park.”

The landscape concept plan is available to view online at council’s website.

Cr Green said the detailed design and construction of stage one will take place in the later half of 2013.

“Stage one work will comprise the construction of two picnic shelters and associated landscaping,” he said.

“Please note that the funding and implementation of stage one is subject to the endorsement of the 2013/14 financial year budget.”

Cr Green said council has also allocated funding for the construction of a viewing platform, which is depicted in the landscape concept plan.

“The viewing platform will allow those less able to have the ability to view and experience the Peregian Beach coastline,” he said.

“The viewing platform is the final element to be implemented as part of the 2006 Peregian Beach Village master plan.

“The implementation and construction timeline for the viewing platform is subject to the receipt of environmental approvals from state agencies.”

The detailed design and implementation of the items featured in the landscape concept plan will occur over a number of years. Council will provide more information on future stages as the information becomes available.
