If you want to learn more about managing pest weeds and animals on your property, come along to council’s Field Day at Conondale Memorial Sports and Recreation Reserve (Green Park) on Saturday, April 16.

Council’s Manager Community Response Sheryl Krome said staff from council’s Vector and Pest Plant Education and Control Team and the Feral Animal Education and Control Team would be on site to provide advice.

“Managing pest plants and animals across the region is an ongoing process,” Ms Krome said.

“Council conducts a series of programs right throughout the year designed to protect our native species and enhance our natural environment.

“From managing weeds and other pest plants, to the control of foxes, wild dogs and a range of feral animals, officers are in the field on a regular basis to help combat these invasive species.

“While council can work towards managing these issues on public land, residents have an obligation to manage their own properties and council officers are available to assist.

“Pop in to the Pest Plants and Animals Field Day anytime between 9am and 3pm and chat with experts from council, state government and the private sector about weed identification, weed management and feral animal control to see how you can manage these issues on your property.”

At the Pest Plants and Animals Field Day visitors will learn about:

  • the identification and management options for weedy Sporobolus grass;
  • general declared weed identification and management;
  • wild dog ecology and control;
  • feral animal control – including equipment demonstration and information;
  • the new Biosecurity Act.

You can also see the results of some weedy Sporobolus grass control trial plots and view the weed control equipment that is available for hire for free from council.

A barbecue and coffee will be on offer, as well as a free native tree for every visitor.

More information is available on council’s website to assist residents with the management of pest plants and animals.
