Power to the people

Activities planned by Sunshine Coast Council for Power Memorial Park in Mudjimba took a giant leap forward at a community meeting recently.

Division 8 Councillor Debbie Blumel said she was impressed with the feedback and involvement of community members in the implementation of the Power Memorial Park Plan.

"Community groups including Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club, Mudjimba Residents Association and Mudjimba Bush Care were represented at the meeting," Cr Blumel said.

"The feedback was overwhelmingly positive about the works already undertaken by council and our plans over the next twelve months.

"We talked about the budget for future construction of additional shelters with picnic tables at the playground and the replacement of old picnic tables.

"The proposed work will complement the newly constructed large shelter with picnic tables and barbeques that council has already completed.

"Design for a welcoming entry path, a shelter with barbeques, picnic tables and a structure for art displays will be progressed in the coming financial year.

"Locals love their local parks as they are the ones using them all the time so it’s important that people have an opportunity to talk about what they would like to see happening at Power Memorial Park.

"I enjoy these community meetings as they are always so constructive and local input really adds value to the work council does on the ground.

"Council has invested $125K in upgrade works on Power Memorial Park and a further $135K will be spent by 2015 - it’s good to know that locals think it is money well spent.

"We are all looking forward to the next stage of works about to get underway in the park."
