Precinct lease boundaries in place

Stakeholders in the Maleny Community Precinct now have security and certainty in their respective areas of operations.

Sunshine Coast Council last week endorsed the indicative lease boundaries for Barung Landcare, Maleny Golf Club and Maleny District Sport and Recreation Club.

Barung’s Glen Donoghoe said the organisation was "very pleased" with the outcome.

"This result can be attributed to the considerable amount of support and work done by council, Barung and other precinct groups over many years," he said.

"This means we can now get moving on establishing our operations with certainty."

Maleny Golf Club spokesman Max Whitten said after much discussion all parties have unanimously agreed on the lease boundaries.

"These are now workable, enabling golf to move forward on the first nine holes of the course," Dr Whitten said.

"We are looking forward to signing the lease and submitting our development application to council."

Maleny District Sport and Recreation Club spokesman Mike Norman said the lease boundaries "certainly provide a basis to progress".

"We now look forward to the detailed design and to real progress," he said.

"The extensive period of consultation and planning has resulted in very beneficial changes to the original master plan and all parties involved need to be complimented for their vision and hard work."

A spokesman for Maleny District Green Hills Fund, Paul Gilmour-Walsh, said the endorsement was a positive thing.

"We are very pleased to see the precinct is progressing," he said.

"The confirmation of the lease boundaries will only increase the progress of community groups involved in the precinct.

"This provides a great outcome for the community of Maleny and for the Sunshine Coast."

Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said the endorsement was a big step forward in the precinct’s realisation.

"This follows the beginning of work on Pattemore House at the north end of the precinct last month," she said.

"A long-term dream for the people of Maleny is one step closer with this agreement."
