Construction is soon to commence on a new 40 metre section of the Coastal Pathway as part of a major upgrade of the Currimundi Lake shopping precinct.

Sunshine Coast Regional Council Division Three Councillor Keryn Jones said the new path is part of the first stage of a $160,000 upgrade to implement the Currimundi Lake Shopping Precinct Masterplan.

The plan was adopted last year, following extensive community consultation, by the former Caloundra City Council.

“These works will improve the amenity and open space of this popular recreational area and will also help ease traffic congestion, which has become a significant issue in recent years,“ Cr Jones said.

The first stage of upgrades will also include the installation of new picnic areas, timber decking and viewing nodes, as well as feature paving, with the new section of pathway providing a vital link between Currimundi Lake and Watson Street.

Cr Jones said project works been scheduled outside of peak holiday periods in an effort to minimise disruption to local residents and visitors.

“Council apologies for any inconvenience, which we will endeavour to keep to a minimum during the construction period.”

While some components of this upgrade have been completed, the major upgrade works are due to get underway next month, with an expected completion date in August.
