Council is calling for groups who are interested in the Quanda Park Water Resource to submit their ideas on how it could be used in the future.
Any interested individuals, commercial businesses or community, environmental, sporting or not-for-profit groups are encouraged to submit their ideas through a formal Expression of Interest to help determine the best use of the water body, which is located at Junction Drive, Coolum.
Expressions of Interest documents including submission requirements are available via a quick link to Current Tenders on council’s website.
Division Nine Councillor Vivien Griffin said that the preferred use for the park will achieve outstanding social, environmental and economic outcomes.
“The site was originally used for sand extraction, but that has now finished and left a large 22 hectare water body with a small area of surrounding land, which council acquired last year for park purposes,” Cr Griffin said.
“This EOI will allow council to consider the best option for the site and the whole community.
“The opportunity is open to everyone in the community, not just commercial—so I really encourage anyone with an idea to submit an EOI.”
The EOI will assess potential environmental, social and economic issues such as water quality, water body health, noise implications, public access, community benefit, recreation opportunities, cost to ratepayers, potential economic stimulus and other impacts of the proposed development.
Expressions of interest close at 12noon, Friday 3 September 2010. All documentation submitted will be treated as confidential by council and will be assessed by an evaluation panel under probity.
