Quota Park is ready for a make over

Council is inviting residents to a ‘Meet us in the Park’ event Saturday 26 June from 10am – 12pm to comment on concept designs for the Quota Park and playground upgrade.

Preliminary designs for the park and its playground will be on display at the Quota Park playground, Matthew Street, Nambour and on Council’s website

Cr Paul Tatton said council had developed the concept designs based on feedback from the consultation held in 2009.

“We now need to gather feedback on what residents do and don’t like about the plans and any suggested improvements that will help us to develop the final designs,” Cr Tatton said.

“Quota Park is an important part of Nambour’s history—it started as an Aboriginal camping ground and later became a camp site for gold miners travelling to Gympie before becoming Quota Memorial Park in 1958.

“This event gives residents the opportunity to view the concepts, discuss the plans and provide feedback right at the start of the decision making process.

“The park and playground upgrade of Quota Park is part of the Petrie Creek Open Space Landscape Master Plan and council’s Hub of the Hinterland project.

“While the master plan is still in progress, the upgrade of Quota Park will kick off council’s vision to create linked parklands along the creek corridor. Playground construction is scheduled for 2010/11.

“The most pressing need is the playground upgrade—it has a long history of vandalism and anti-social behaviour and while most play items are structurally sound they require refurbishment.”

For residents unable to attend the event, a questionnaire is available on Council's website or by calling council’s customer service centre on 5475 7272. The deadline for submission is 2 July.
