Real Food Festival says we’re not just about sport

Sunshine Coast Council’s draft Economic Development Strategy outlines the importance of attracting and sponsoring major events as a critical component of the diversification of our local economy.

In recent times, we have hosted the likes of Tough Mudder, the Sunshine Coast Marathon – and the inaugural Ironman 70.3 will take place on September 15 in Mooloolaba.

“Yes, we are a mecca for triathlon-style and other sporting events – but it’s not all about sport,” Economic Development (major events) portfolio councillor Jason O’Pray said.

“Just as important are other cultural aspects of human society, such as music, art and performance.

“We host the Caloundra Music Festival, for example – and we also sponsor the Real Food Festival which is taking place at Maleny this weekend.

“As many will know, the Coast is a literal food-bowl when it comes to quality culinary products, so it’s only right we should celebrate our good fortune.

“A visit to the Real Food Festival this weekend will be good for your health – guaranteed.”

The festival starts tomorrow (Saturday) at the Maleny Showgrounds, continuing through Sunday; visit the website for more information.
