Recycling now a breeze for Noosa businesses
  • Wednesday 30 July 2008

Council today announced the availability of yellow-lidded recycling bins for shops and industrial premises in the Coast’s northern region.

This is great news for Noosa businesses as they are now able to recycle the same types of material that they have been recycling at home for many years now,” Council’s Environmental Health Manager (North), Wayne Schafer said.

Shops and businesses located in the northern region that do not currently have a recycling bin can now, for the first time, apply for the yellow lidded recycling bin service. The service cost is included in the waste collection rates – no further charges apply.

“These businesses include food and other retail shops, light industrial premises, mixed shops/residential premises, which don’t have a need for a bulk recycling bin,” Wayne said.

“For premises that produce large amounts of recyclables, a bulk recycling bin may be a better alternative and Council will be able to advise on what is the best solution for their business.”

Recyclable material includes glass bottles, aluminium and steel cans, aerosol cans, clean paper and cardboard, recyclable plastics with recycling symbol 1 to 6.

The bins are collected fortnightly from the kerbside on the same service day as their 240 litre waste wheelie bin.

It is essential that commercial premises control contamination of recycling bins as some contaminates such as crockery (ceramics) can spoil a whole truckload of recyclable material.

Property owners or their authorised agents can arrange a service by contacting Mr Gary Dolton at Council’s Tewantin Office by email to gary.dolton@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or phone 54495262.
