A smooth and safer road surface for many years to come – that’s what Dicky Beach residents can look forward too as a result of resealing and rehabilitation works on busy Beerburrum Street.

Division 3 Councillor Peter Cox said following an initial minor delay, the first stage of works would now take place between Nicklin Way and Coonowrin Street from June 24.

“This section of Beerburrum Street has become quite rough and uneven, largely due to its very high usage and some recent summers of extreme rainfall,” he said.

“To remedy this, council will carry out subsoil drainage works and major pavement rehabilitation that will counter the effects of heavy traffic and provide a new, smooth pavement that will provide commuters with safer travels and less wear and tear on vehicles.”

Cr Cox said the works were part of council’s Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Program and would take around 12 weeks to complete (weather permitting).

“During construction times, detours will be in place and this section of Beerburrum Street will be restricted to residents only,” he said.

“Road pavement rehabilitation works will be completed in stages, during which time it is likely that residents immediately adjacent to the works will be unable to directly access their properties with vehicles for a number of working days.

“Council’s contractor for these works will contact affected residents where necessary to make arrangements for parking access. Traffic controllers will be on site to facilitate parking and alternative parking arrangements for affected residents.

“I sympathise with those residents who will be affected by these works in the short term, however the long term outcome will be a much improved road surface that will greatly benefit the community.”

Electronic message boards will be in place before and during the construction to provide advance warnings to commuters and enable alternative routes to be taken around the works.
