An exciting new venture between Sunshine Coast Destination and Australia Zoo announced last month has today seen the two organisations launch their first co-branded billboard at Brisbane domestic and international airports.
The innovative new billboard will welcome 75,000 vehicles per day to Brisbane, encouraging tourism and attendance at the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon on August 30 at Alexandra Headland.
Playing on the marathon’s tag line, "Run for a Reason", the billboard creatively represents Australia Zoo’s largest white rhinoceros and “gentle giant”, D.J, chasing 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon ambassador and Australia Zoo veterinarian, Melanie Panayiotou, along the marathon’s coastline track.
Dr Panayiotou, a Sunshine Coast local and professional marathon runner who competed in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, is “thrilled” that the new billboard will showcase this world-class event to tens of thousands of people passing through Brisbane.
“This billboard is a fusion of two of my all-time passions – animals and running," she said.
"I’m proud to work for Australia Zoo and to be an ambassador for the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon, and I feel this new artwork really captures the spirit of what people can expect when they attend this event.
“I’m really excited that this partnership is going to encourage more people to come to the Sunshine Coast and experience the diverse range of events we have to offer here."
Jason Crowther, Event Director of the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon, is delighted the marathon is the first event to be profiled by this great initiative.
“Major events working together with major attractions to bring tourism to the Sunshine Coast is a perfect way to drive the economy and create more local jobs," Jason said.
"As an event that utilises local volunteers, suppliers and businesses wherever possible, we understand the importance of giving back to the communities we live in - it is what the event is all about."
The 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon is the first of 13 different local events being promoted through the partnership between Sunshine Coast Destination and Australia Zoo, with a new billboard launching each month over the next year.
